Another man has been arrested for filming the police from his property as they groped and handcuffed an innocent woman across the street. Charged with disturbing the peace, the man had no more than yelled a few non-vulgar comments of disapproval. The police then approached his garage and began interrogating him. The man repeatedly asked the officers to leave his garage and property to which they menacingly refused and continued to demand identification. The victim expressly demanded a warrant at which the officers scoffed. Eventually they released the innocent woman and arrested him instead on felony charges. He was released the following day with no charges, and his illegally confiscated firearm was returned immediately.
Nearly the entirety of this event was recorded on video. I ask that the weak minded refrain from viewing the video due to a few silly comments made by the victim. The judgmental will miss the greater points of the event, and criticize the content of the man’s speech, which despite imperfect articulation, was essentially correct, and CERTAINLY not in violation of any law.
Even if the man had been profane – which he was not – these officers should have walked away and carried on with their duties elsewhere. This is a classic example of a common psychological dilemma afflicting those in positions of power but lacking self discipline. This is a major problem and should be treated as a crime. Again, the dialog of the victim is completely irrelevant and in no way warranted an arrest. If you choose to watch the video at the link above, please do so with this in mind.
Free speech is far more valuable than the egos of a few sub-standard cops. In any society with sound priorities this would be a serious violation of police procedure. We already have far too many people incarcerated than permissible in a decent country, and to waste resources bullying an irritated citizen stating opinions from his own property is beyond ludicrous. For those a bit hot for the police and thinking that there was any justification for this act, the man was never even given a warning – not that any warning was necessary.
As a final note, the woman upon being released stopped and thanked the victim multiple times as she was driving away. The police ridiculed her.
